A Life Of Purpose

The best part of having a strong identity is that you don’t have to try to be “the best” at it; you just are. Your identity becomes your way of life. You don’t have to force it because it’s already a part of you.

Your way of life guides your choices, influences your actions, and gives you control over your path, even when things get tough. Sometimes people mistake what they want (their desires) for who they are (their identity). When that happens, the real parts of us fade away. The biggest regret is living a life where you never truly became who you were meant to be.

In my time working in sales, a field that’s all about building relationships and selling value, I’ve noticed a common theme. Every highly successful person I’ve met says the same thing: “I’m just trying to be the best.”

However, this constant pursuit of “being the best” often reveals a deeper issue, a lack of understanding about what our way of life truly is. Our way of life isn’t about striving to be better; it already is the best version of ourselves. The practices we engage in are simply the expression of who we are.

When I was younger, I told my parents I wanted to have a social impact. My goal was to influence the places I went and help as many people as possible find a well-defined path for their lives.

This calling became my way of life, and it’s not something I have to wish or strive to be the best at, because who we are is our way of life. It’s what tells us what direction our future lies in. But if we ignore it, we misdirect our lives, leaving us feeling unfulfilled and unhappy.

So, the first question to ask isn’t, “How can I be better?” but rather, “What serves as my way of life?” For me, I am a man of impact. I make an impact by teaching knowledge, rewriting concepts, and developing new paths for a better understanding of everyday life.

The part of our lives where we strive to “be the best” without knowing who we are is, in essence, our lost selves. We are unsure of our purpose, unable to define the future we want to share with society or articulate the unique values of our lives.

Are we trying to be the best version of someone we don’t even know, or are we instead applying our true identity to every place we go?

Today, what is often lost is the part of us that remains unfulfilled and unhappy. We end up sacrificing our future, our lives, and our dreams on things that cause stress, pressure, and ultimately, a lack of meaning. When we finally answer the fundamental questions about our lives, we solve the best within us. This is how we truly make an impact with our identity and discover the reason for our existence.
